Symptoms
The customer at a property in WD17 noticed that the laminate flooring in the lounge had begun to swell, raising concern about a possible water leak. Methods Used
The investigation began with moisture meter surveys of the lounge floor and walls to map the extent of water ingress. A water meter flow test was then conducted to quantify the leak rate.
With usage running at 5–6 litres per minute and continuing unchanged after the internal isolation valve was shut, the leak was confirmed to be on the incoming mains pipe upstream of the internal stop valve. The internal mains pipe was then disconnected and a test rig connected, with an air compressor used to introduce pressurised air into the pipework.

The damaged section of 15mm copper pipe was replaced using copper tube, copper fittings, flux and solder.

With all pipework reconnected, the incoming mains was pressure tested at 2.4 bar and held for 20 minutes with no measurable pressure loss. A further meter observation over 20 minutes recorded no usage, confirming all pipework to be sound at the time of testing.
