The investigation followed a structured sequence, beginning with pressure testing of the internal cold and hot water pipes to rule out an internal fault before focusing on the external main. Both internal circuits held pressure at 3 bar over 30 minutes without any loss, which cleared the internal pipework and directed attention to the external main cold water pipe.

Tracer gas was then introduced to the external supply pipe. Within 10 minutes of testing at 3 bar, a failure was confirmed.

Tracer gas was detected in the front garden near the water meter, and acoustic listening equipment picked up clear leak noise from the grass in that area.
