Methods Used

The investigation began with a visual inspection of the affected areas, confirming water damage to the kitchen walls and floor. An acoustic test was then carried out on the mains supply line, which identified an irregularity beneath the floor in the area between the kitchen and dining room.

To confirm the finding, the mains supply was isolated and 4.0 bar of compressed air was introduced into the system via a compressor — an immediate pressure drop was recorded, and further sound irregularities were detected from the same location beneath the floor.

A damp meter survey was conducted across all affected areas, returning maximum readings throughout and corroborating the acoustic findings. Access was then made by carefully removing the wooden flooring and screed, which exposed the failed section of 15mm copper mains supply pipe.
