About New Mills

The name New Mills was derived from a hamlet that grew up in the 14th century, even though New Mills came into existence and was known to many in the late 18th century. Because of industrialization today, this small town prospers already because of newly built halls and farms. Here are the best places to visit in New Mills:

  • Millennium Walkway. Visiting the Millennium Walkway will give you the chance to explore Riverside Park and the Torrs. This walkway is 160m long. It follows the Midshires Way to discover the Mousley Bottom Local Nature Reserve nearly 100 feet below the town of New Mills. This is known to be an area of heritage and geology where visitors can discover many things and places.

  • New Mills Heritage Centre. This Heritage Centre is situated near the Central Railway Station, which is adjacent to the Bus Station. The Centre is known to be on track towards leading the Torrs – ‘the Park under the Town.’ It gives access to a place of remarkable and natural beauty that includes ruined foundations of mills and weirs that lie in the bottom of the gorges. It is an attractive site that many tourists would like to visit.
  • Peak Forest Canal. This unique Forest Canal passes through the New Mills. It has a lot to offer to tourists and residents, like waterways in barges, marinas, and a friendly flat route that people who love to walk can go, as well as the cyclists. The route starts in Buxworth Basin to the link to Cheshire Ring in Marple, where shops, cafes, and pubs are located. From there, the canal would pass by the pubs in New Mills, like The Queens, Beehive, and more.

  • High Lea Park. This is known to be the biggest Park located near the town of New Mills. This is because it’s so close to pubs, restaurants, and cafes. It’s also near a great selection of shops, that’s why it’s a highly recommendable place to have picnics. The Park has a lot to offer, as it comes with beautiful gardens, impressive sculptures, woodland pathways, and a playground for children.
