Methods Used

With the pipework route established, pressure testing was repeated while acoustic listening was used to isolate the leak sound. The noise of escaping water was audible next to the door and the kitchen unit, narrowing the location precisely enough to begin targeted excavation.

    With pressure reintroduced to the system, acoustic listening equipment was used to listen for the sound of the leak. The noise was clearly audible next to the door and the kitchen unit.

    Floor excavated to access leak

    The wood floor and 100 mm of insulation were removed in the kitchen, followed by excavation of the concrete floor beneath to expose the pipework at the door frame.

    Leak located and repair carried out

    The external main cold water pipe was found to be leaking beneath the door frame between the kitchen and the corridor. The old lead pipe was repaired using a lead pipe adapter and plastic pipe.
