The loss of system pressure and the damp ceiling together indicated an active leak that had likely been present for some time, allowing moisture to saturate the ceiling material and cause the visible paint discolouration.

The central heating leak detection process began with thermal imaging of the heating pipework to identify the pipe routes and any areas of heat loss. No thermal anomalies were detected, so the system was drained using an air compressor and a pressure test was carried out.

The test failed, confirming a leak was present within the pipework. Attention then shifted to the damp living room ceiling, where a damp meter recorded elevated readings.

An acoustic inspection of the bedroom floor above identified an anomaly consistent with escaping water. A tracer camera was then used to visually confirm the presence of a wet area beneath the floorboards.

With the leak location established, the carpet, underlay, and floorboards were lifted and cut to expose the affected pipework for repair.
