About South Yorkshire

South Yorkshire is a ceremonial and metropolitan county in England. It is the southernmost county in the Yorkshire and the Humber region and consists of four metropolitan boroughs: Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, and Sheffield. South Yorkshire’s main settlements grew around the industries of coal mining, which was concentrated to the north and the east of the county, as well as steel manufacturing.

The county has three main urban areas, namely the Dearne Valley which covers Barnsley and its surrounding area; the Sheffield urban area which covers Sheffield, Rotherham, and its surrounding area; and the Doncaster urban area.

Doncaster

Doncaster is a town in South Yorkshire situated near the River Don. The bustling town features several historical landmarks such as the Doncaster Minister, the Doncaster Market that houses hundreds of indoor and outdoor stands and stalls including the grand Victorian shopping centre, the Corn Exchange, museums such as the Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery and the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum. Doncaster is also home to Potteric Carr Nature Reserve, which is home to a large range of wetland birds, dotted with hides as well as a tearoom and gift shop, and a number of other outdoor recreational spaces.
Sheffield

Sheffield is a city in South Yorkshire. Its city centre features the Millenium Gallery, which showcases metalwork and art from Sheffield and around the world. It is also home to the Sheffield Botanical Gardens, which is a large glasshouse filled with plants, and the Kelham Island Museum, which covers the city’s industrial heritage.

Furthermore, town is home to several museums, including the South Yorkshire Transport Museum, Clifton Park Museum, and the Magna Science Adventure Centre, as well as some shops, pubs, and restaurants.
