    About Jarrow

    Jarrow is a town located within the metropolitan borough of South Tyneside which is a part of the metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear. The town is situated by the River Tyne and is home to the southern entrance/exit of the Tyne Tunnel. It is home to one of the most important historic sites in the world: the Monastery of Saint Paul, which was home to the Venerable Bede. Today, Jarrow is a thriving town that offers plenty of amenities such as shops, pubs, restaurants, and attractions for its residents, prospective homebuyers, and visitors.

    St Paul’s Monastery

    St Paul’s Monastery was one of Europe’s most influential centres of learning and culture in the 7th century. The remains today are from the medieval monastery, but part of the Anglo-Saxon monastery survives today as the chancel of St Paul’s Church. Admission to the site is free. Car parking is available at the site.
    Jarrow Hall

    Jarrow Hall is a museum in Church Bank, Jarrow, South Tyneside. The museum celebrates the life of the Venerable Bede, a monk, author, and scholar who lived at the Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. The museum holds artefacts connected to St Paul’s Monastery. Jarrow Hall opens at 10am until 4pm from Wednesday to Saturday. For enquiries, call 03703331181.

    Jarrow Slake

    Jarrow Slake is a historical landmark situated at Slake Road, at the edge of Jarrow. The site was a large area of mudflats which would fill up and drain according to the level of River Tyne.

    Ben Lomond

    Ben Lomond is a traditional pub situated in Grange Road, Jarrow. The pub serves tasty traditional pub food as well as an excellent range of drinks.
