The Shard

The Shard, also known as the Shard of Glass, or Shard London Bridge, and formerly London Bridge Tower, is a 72-story skyscraper in Southwark, London, designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano as part of the Shard Quarter construction. The Shard, at 309.6 meters tall, is the tallest building in the United Kingdom and the seventh-tallest in the Europe. It is also the second-tallest free-standing structure in the United Kingdom, which means it is listed among structures that are 150m in height or more. This is the basis for a building to qualify as a skyscraper in the United Kingdom.

The View from The Shard, the tower’s privately owned observation deck, opened to the public on February 1, 2013. The glass-clad pyramidal tower has 72 habitable floors and an open-air observation deck on the top level.

The Shard was developed by Sellar Property Group and is jointly owned by Sellar Property and the State of Qatar. The Shard is managed by Real Estate Management Limited on behalf of the owners.
