St Clément’s, Oxford
St Clément’s is a district in Oxford, England. It is found on the east bank of the River Cherwell. St Clément’s Street is the main road that connects the roundabout near Magdalen Bridge with London Place at the foot of Headington Hill at the junction with Marston Road to the north. To the east the Headington Road is directed to the A420. To the southwest we find Morrell Avenue.
History of St Clément’s, Oxford
The original St Clément’s parish was at The Plain but it was demolished in 1828. Stone’s Almshouses in St Clément’s Street were founded in 1700. The artist William Turner lived here with his wife Elizabeth after their marriage in 1824. The Royal Microscopical Society, which is involved in the promotion of microscopy, is found in St Clément’s Street since 1967.
