      About Pontesbury

Pontesbury is a town known for its long mining history and the birthplace of the world-renowned naturalist Charles Darwin. In addition, the town is known for its castles, museums, and beautiful parks known as the Quarry that hosts the world-famous Shrewsbury Flower Show every summer. Here are the places to visit in town:

Earl’s and Pontesford Hill. These are two hills that are joined together. Residents have seen these hills like a shape of a sleeping dragon since then. It’s a distinctive humped hill seen from a volcano about 650 million years ago.

In 1964, the Earl Hills became the Trust’s first-ever nature reserve and was managed by the local Shropshire Wildlife Trust. Later in 2016, it purchased the adjoining Pontesford Hill that the residents supported. The hill looks very inviting, that’s why many people would like to explore and discover its slopes.
Arscott Golf Club. There will always be a warm and friendly welcome awaiting the visitors and golfers at the Arscott Golf Club. Whether they’re golfers or not, visitors can enjoy the facilities in this place for there are a lot of packages that will suit all.

There is also a lodge where you can stay for days. The lodge, of course, has lovely views and a hot tub that overlooks the entire golf course. They have almost everything that visitors need throughout their stay, and they have great walks for everyone.

Mary Webb School and Science College. This is a secondary school in Pontesbury that started in 1957. Its original name was Pontesbury Secondary Modern School, and in 1977, the abolition of the tripartite system made the school a comprehensive school.

It was named after a romantic poet and was designated as a Science College in 2003. The school was later converted into academy status in 2019 and sponsored by the Central Shropshire Academy Trust.
