Hawes is a market town and civil parish in Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England, at the head of the Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales, and historically in the North Riding of Yorkshire. The town’s name s derived from the Old Norse word hals, meaning “neck” or “pass between mountains”.

It is 3.12 miles west of the county town of Northallerton. The River Ure, which is located north of the town is a tourist attraction in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The town is also the home of the Wensleydale Creamery Centre, which produces the Wensleydale Cheese. Hawes holds regular market days on Tuesdays. There are also a number of shops, pubs, and tearooms visitors can visit after walking or hiking in the countryside.
